Every Brain Matters is the project directed by Aubree Adams that produces a large share of the infographics and messaging that circulate in the Texas campaign, often under the “Dispensing Truth” banner.
Background
Every Brain Matters grew out of the Parents Opposed to Pot advocacy world and operates within the broader national parent-focused anti-legalization ecosystem associated with Smart Approaches to Marijuana. Adams, who relocated to the Houston area from Colorado in 2018, directs both Every Brain Matters and Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Texas, which is why the same graphics and claims appear under both names.
What it produces
Much of the material we examine on this site, including several of the graphics in our six-post audit, originates with Every Brain Matters. The recurring issue is not fabricated data but the framing applied to real studies: conditional rates presented as general ones, associations described as causes, and rare harms in heavy users generalized to all use. In its own words, Every Brain Matters is “a nonprofit founded as a project of Parents Opposed to Pot and developed by Aubree Adams.” That confirms the lineage on our network map, and the group’s own advocacy page links out to Smart Approaches to Marijuana’s Parent Action Network and to Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Texas. On the structure, their page and ours agree.
On the science, the About page’s policy brief states that THC “causes mental and physical illness” and that marijuana “has been identified as a causal or contributing risk factor in serious mental illness, schizophrenia, homelessness, and violent behavior.”
Parts of that are well supported. Cannabis use disorder is real, and caution about the developing brain under age 25 is shared by mainstream health authorities. But the causal claims about violence and homelessness are not established. As our fact-check details, the strongest evidence supports associations, often with heavy or high-potency use, not proof that cannabis causes violence or homelessness. Listing “violent behavior” as a settled causal factor overstates what the research shows. To its credit, the brief also states that the FDA, not state legislatures, should approve medical claims, which is a defensible regulatory position.
